Steven Wilson Signs to Caroline International

Steven Wilson – one of the UK’s most successful underground artists – has signed a worldwide record deal with Caroline International. He joins a roster that includes Peter Gabriel, Thurston Moore, Iggy Pop, Glass Animals and Underworld. His fifth solo album – the follow up to 2015’s hugely acclaimed Hand. Cannot. Erase. – will be released later this year.

Michael Roe, Joint Managing Director of Caroline International: “I’ve been a fan of Steven’s recorded and production work for many years. He’s an incredible talent with a big and dedicated fanbase but someone who has not received the wider recognition I think he deserves. I’m thrilled he’s chosen Caroline as a home”

Steven Wilson: “I’m absolutely delighted to be entering into partnership with Michael Roe and his team at Caroline for my next album. Although Caroline exist within the Universal Music Group, their flexible label services model allows me to remain creatively independent, while at the same time providing the “muscle” that being with a major organisation brings. This makes it a perfect home for me, and I’m happy to now be label mates with some of the most respected musicians in the industry.”

A self-taught producer/engineer and multi-instrumentalist, Steven Wilson was formerly founder and frontman of the progressive psychedelic rock’n’roll group Porcupine Tree. For two decades, the band seemingly operated outside the music industry – hugely adored and totally autonomous.

Inspired by many of the formative bands of his youth (from the claustrophobic pop music of Cure and Killing Joke to the beautifully controlled noise of My Bloody Valentine), Steven’s first solo release – 2009’s Insurgentes – collected together his “most experimental song-based music”. His most recent release – Hand. Cannot. Erase – met huge critical acclaim (a gushing 5* review in Record Collector described it as a work of “spellbinding poignancy and aching beauty”), reaching No 13 in the UK charts.

For the last decade, Steven’s expansive, captivating live shows have drawn huge audiences across the globe. The Guardian was moved to describe one of his 2016 gigs as “so heartbreakingly beautiful that the interval is presumably to allow people a quiet weep.”

Steven Wilson has been nominated for several Grammy awards as both a recording artist and as a renowned mix engineer. Over the last few years, he has been responsible for remixing classic works by Tears for Fears, Roxy Music and Simple Minds among many others.
